This video is particularly useful for lower level language levels. Get the right version by watching the video first. As long as you are logged into Google, then you can access all the features. It is a really good idea to have a Gmail account because the features that are available are really only available if you are logged in. A Google account is free.
Use Google Translate in Language teaching and learning video is very useful in these days of online learning and teaching. Remote teaching is increasing daily. There are many ways that Google Suite helps teachers and learners to study. This tutorial is about how you can use Google Translate to learn and consolidate new vocabulary. The example in this video is learning the Polish language, which is something Russell has been doing for a couple of years now. The example of Polish is just to show you how to learn new words. The word can be added to a favourites list quite easily. Distance and remote learning requires asynchronous tasks. You might need to set a task of learning ten new words. Google Translate can help you with this task. If you are a teacher this video will give you examples of what you can do. If you are a language learner, such as learning another language, like Polish, then like Quizlet and other vocabulary learning tools, Google Translate can be learned and the new words can be saved. You can learn the word in context, by putting it in a sentence.
With Google Translate you can learn vocabulary by writing words in sentences. This is clear in this tutorial, as Russell shows you how to do this. In Polish, there is a small grammatical change because of the case of a word. You see an example of this in this tutorial. Other languages have their own unique or shared grammar points such as this. Russell has been doing a lot of vocabulary work with shopping lexical items. These words are shown in this tutorial on using Google Translate. With any translation software you have you remember that words in isolation are somewhat easier and better translated than whole sentences. Whilst Google Translate is not perfect, it is a very good, basic way of getting and taking on board new vocabulary or lexical sets.
You can also hear the word or any sentence that has been translated. If I write a sentence such as ‘I buy flowers in the florist’, then this tool is able to translate it instantly and an audio file of this can be played. This is an example of a Present Simple sentence. If Google Translate is open on your computer, then a list of all vocabulary that comes up in a lesson can be saved. This is really useful way of working with Google Translate. This is teacher training video on using some of the basic features in this tool. Google Translate is one of many educational tools that Google makes available completely for free as is either accessed via a browser or via an app on a mobile device. This is useful if the learner is working remotely or is on the move. Learning can take place anywhere, although if you are limited to one location, then the learner could access Google Translate on any device.
Teachers can use Google Translate to test their learners or the learners can test each other about their knowledge. Similar to other vocabulary and language learning tools, such as Quizlet, you do not necessarily need to be signed in, although I do show you in what ways you can benefit from this simple tool if you are signed into a Google or Gmail account. There are safeguards built in and Chrome will save your passwords. You can also copy your vocabulary list or lexical sets into a Google sheet. So by using a Google Sheet you can save all of your translations for self-study or share. Autonomous learners will gain from self-study and being able to save or store your vocabulary lists.
