I. Pituitary Gland - 1
(Hypophysis cerebri) - It is also known as master endocrine gland.
- It is divisible into :
A. Anterior lobe – It secretes following hormones :
1. GH – It promotes the growth of body.
2. Gn – It affects the growth and functioning of gonads.
3. TSH – It stimulates the thyroid gland and promotes the release of Thyroxine.
4. ACTH – It stimulates the adrenal gland.
B. Intermediate lobe – MSH – It influences the colouration of skin,
C. Posterior Lobe – ADH (or Vasopressin) – It increases the reabsorption of water in
the uriniferous tubules.
II. Pineal Gland - 1
(Epiphysis cerebri) It secretes Melatonin hormone.
Functions : 1. It alters the skin colour.
2. It inhibits the Gonad function.
III. Thyroid Glands -2 Secretes Thyroxine Hormone.
Functions : 1. It regulates metabolism.
2. It results in Metamorphosis (Tadpole Larva → Adult frog).
IV. Parathyroids - 2 It secretes PTH (Parathormone).
Function : It maintains the calcium and phosphorus balance by increasing them in
blood.
