Let’s compare the two states. There are some HUGE advantages for Californians moving to Utah. #1 The cost of living in Utah is much lower than California. A lot of people sell their home in California & pay cash for a house here or put down a large down payment. Utah's median home value is about half of what it is in California. For many Californian's, you can move to Utah and buy a house instead of paying rent. In Utah, even if you’d like to be fairly close to Salt Lake City, you can buy a single-family home in the $350,000 to $400,000 price range. But, the cost of living in Utah is quickly increasing as loads of people continue to move to here. A move from California to Utah can be financially beneficial in a way that will drastically increase your quality of life.
California is also super close to Utah. So, if you’re leaving family & friends behind, it’s just a quick drive or flight away. The distance is less than 700 miles from Salt Lake to LA. That’s only a 9-hour drive. Speaking of traffic, Salt Lake is notorious for bad traffic, bad drivers, & road construction, but I still prefer Utah’s rush-hour traffic over California’s & I’m betting you will too.
If you’re looking for employment, I have great news. Utah consistently has one of the best job markets in the country. So, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to quickly find a high paying job. Due to the insane job growth, Utah’s unemployment rate continues to be among the lowest in the country. These crazy low unemployment numbers are making Utah’s job market competitive, forcing companies to pay you better.
I hate to talk politics, but it can’t be ignored when you’re comparing Utah to California. Utah is one of the most conservative places in the United States & California is basically the opposite. So, when you move here, be ready for a totally different lifestyle and Utahn's will fight, to keep it that way. If you’re very liberal, there’s a good chance you won’t like it here. But, there are a few locations around the state that are less conservative. W
Utahan’s, are also very friendly. Sometime too friendly. It might actually make you feel uncomfortable, but many Utahan’s really do want to get to know you. The diversity in Utah is also lacking, but Utah is not a racist place. Due to the lack of diversity situations may arise where someone might be offended. But I rarely, if ever see racism. As a matter of fact, Utahan’s strive not to judge others for being different.
50% of the people who live in Utah belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. Some are concerned about living among the Mormons. But, it's not something to worry about & you may actually prefer it. At least that’s what I’ve seen with many who move here that are not Mormon. The members of the LDS faith are very accepting, honest, hardworking and they love to serve their community. As a matter of fact, don’t be surprised when neighbors show up to help unload your moving van. Utahans are also very generous. Utah is the #1 state for the percentage of residents who donate time & money.
