Pulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital lung cystic disease. It occurs because a part of the lung receives its blood circulation from a systemic artery. This lung section cannot function, and the inside turns into a cystic structure. It may cause frequent respiratory infections in patients and sometimes coughing up blood from the mouth.
Pulmonary sequestration treatment is the surgical removal of the diseased area. This surgery can be performed by open or closed method. Closed, or thoracoscopic, procedure is preferred to open surgery due to its apparent benefits.
This video includes the closed operation we performed with the Single Port VATS technique on an 11-month patient with pulmonary sequestration disease.
