TransPennine Express 68032 thunders through Wigan North Western with a rake of TPE NOVA 3 Mark 5 coaching stock on a test run from Manchester's Longsight depot to Carlisle. The train would then reverse at Carlisle with the Class 68 locomotive pushing the train back towards Crewe and then return it to Longsight.
This has been a very elusive working to catch as it is due at 6am and over the last six months has rarely ran in this direction but instead down to Bletchley, if it has ran North then it would usually run so late it would have shown as cancelled and I would only find out that it ran minutes after it's passed Wigan. It was by sheer chance I managed to get this train today as I happened to be headed to Manchester and after stepping onto the platform thought I would double check to see if anything was due and sure enough this path was now active and crucially the train was a mere 2-3 minutes away!
This was the first time I had seen a NOVA 3 set in person and to be fair I thought it looked pretty decent and the 68 sounded pretty Hellfire going into the distance, it was possible to hear it for a good 2 minutes until it passed over the bank at Coppull.
