#Oil is an integral part of every household. We use oil to #cook, we use them to nourish our hair and skin. You might have heard of #wood pressed oil, #cold pressed oil, organic cold pressed oils, #chekku ennai and ganaada yenne. But have you wondered how oil is extracted? How gingelly oil is made?

What is Cold Pressed Oil? What is wood pressed oil ?
It is a traditional method of oil extraction. Historical evidence indicates that the practice of extracting oil (from the oil-bearing seeds) started in the Indus Valley Civilization. In this ancient method of oil extraction, oil is extracted by 'pressing' the oil seeds. Regular oil extraction is done using machines which generate #high #heat, increasing the heat of the oil obtained. The high heat takes away the nutrients and alters the #natural #taste and #aroma of the oil. The oil is treated with chemicals and mixed with preservatives to increase the shelf life.

On the contrary, in the wood pressed oil extraction, oil is extracted without generating heat and #zero #chemicals are added. The wooden press method consists of a large stone drum and a shaft that is rotated using a motor engine (traditionally they use an ox to steer the shaft). The churning will be done at a low speed and there is hardly any heat generated in this method of oil extraction. This is why this method of oil extraction is also called as the 'cold press' method and the eventual oil derived is called the cold pressed oil. As the wood used to churn does not produce any heat or very negligible heat, all the nutrients from the seeds, natural aroma and taste are retained.

Compared to hot pressed oil, the oil extracted in the wood pressed oil is healthier as the process retains all the nutrients. The oil is pressed at room temperature without using any chemicals.
