The Institute of Structural Materials (ISM) at Swansea University is an internationally recognised research facility specialising in testing and characterisation of high performance metallic materials and advanced composites. Underpinned by a commercial company (SMaRT – Swansea Materials and Research Testing) which provides an ISO accredited laboratory for all testing. This unique facility offers a wide portfolio of services from rapid turnaround high priority work to longer-term research programmes, focussing on a range of mechanical tests from the simple to more complex, bespoke setups designed to accurately replicate in service environments. The ISM provides research and support to industries including aerospace and power generation.
