This was one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had. Amazing from pick up to drop off. The driver was early and professional, very helpful in preparing for the experience. You do have to report your weight when you make the reservation and they also weigh you 30 minutes before you get on the flight, too. We saw a short safety video film, we put on our glacier boots. They provide boots that go over regular shoes to walk in the snow, so no need for special footwear and soon we were in the air. I found this "tour" one of the best I've ever experienced and then some. From the drive getting to the take-off point to the very cool helicopter ride (I was able to sit next to the pilot!) The aerial view from the flight was amazing. We didn't just go right to the sledding camp, we got a GREAT scenic 15-20 minute ride. Soon we turned and in front of us was in the distance was the dog camp area. Really cool site. We landed and were immediately met by our guides who told us of mushing, the dogs, their life on a glacier (no tv, no cell connection, living in tents for months at a time, trip into town only once a week), all so very interesting and informative. Then a pack of dogs was tethered to the sled and they began barking in anticipation of the "run". SO COOL. We had a great ride, stopping along the way and changing places from sitting to standing on the sled, so everyone got a turn being in every position on the sled. The views are INCREDIBLE! And then to top it off you get to meet and play with the sled dogs.
After the dog sled, we flew to a glacier and landed. I have to say that it was the single most awe-inspiring place I have been so far. Don’t even hesitate to include the extra glacier landing!! It is straight out awesome and so very special! It is definitely worth the extra cost !!! It was ice with rivers and valleys of pure blue water, and the enormity of the ice was breathtaking. We tried the glacier water, it was cold and refreshing and made me wish I had brought my water bottle (you can check out how I drank )
This was the most memorable vacation we've had! It was certainly a onc-in-a-lifetime experience. I know I never will forget this wonderful excursion.
