বাংলাদেশে অনেকে রিমান্ড বলতেই বোঝেন পুলিশের নির্যাতন। অথচ আদালতের নির্দেশনা অনুযায়ী রিমান্ডে শুধুমাত্র জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের কথা বলা হয়েছে। কোথাও মারধরের উল্লেখ নেই। আইনমন্ত্রী নির্যাতনের অভিযোগ অস্বীকার করলেও মানবাধিকার কর্মীরা বলছেন সাম্প্রতিক বেশ কয়েকটি ঘটনায় রিমান্ডে নির্যাতন করার আলামত স্পষ্ট।
