This has been one of my favourite days in Taiwan yet! We started off by riding Will back up through Taroko Gorge National Park, to the trailhead of the Tunnel Of Nine Turns Trail. You cannot miss this as it is one of the main tourist spots in the park. There is parking for buses, cars and scooters. It can get quite busy I'm sure. We were lucky in that it wasn't that busy, and that the trail is totally under cover. It is either carved into the side of the cliff, or has concrete rockfall protectors above you the whole way. This and the breeze that blows through the canyon makes it for a very pleasant hike. After we finished, we took Will for a run up through the snaking mountain roads the Central Cross Island Highway. We were trying to get to the Beliu Giant Tree at an altitude of 2,150 Meters, but were turned back with a partial road closure only a few hundred meters from our destination. The road up through the mountains is breathtaking.
