France has added abortion rights to its constitution after a historic joint session of the French assembly adopted an amendment. Out of 925 MPs and senators eligible to vote, 780 supported the amendment, which will give women the 'guaranteed freedom' to choose an abortion. Yaël Braun-Pivet, the president of the national assembly from Macron’s Renaissance party, said: 'To the women of France, we say that we will never step backward. To the women of the world, we say that we will support them, and we will always move forward by their side'.
