This Tutorial is about color grading Mavic footage like a pro with Davinci Resolve 14. I will show you how you can make your footage look amazing with color correction and color grading. You will learn to take footage like this and turn it into this for filmmaking. Welcome to another episode of the series where we look into making better video your Mavic. You might think that color correction is too difficult to learn and you will be better off with the standard footage from the done. Trust me, the process is super easy with the use of LUT's or look up tables It's well worth spending a little time on post processing getting a far better result.

I will be using DaVinci Resolve 14 beta that is available for free from the Blackmagic website. It's an amazing piece of software, but for now, we will limit the use to applying LUT's to enhance your footage. You can get it here:

You often hear terms like Color correction and Color grading for post production of a video. What is the difference between Color correction and Color grading? With the color correction, the purpose is to fix colors in the original footage and with color grading, the purpose is to apply a certain mood to your footage.

Normally it takes a lot of practice and good skills to color correct footage, but an easy way to do it to use Look Up Tables, also known as LUT's. An LUT that is optimized for your camera, will be able to take your footage to a completely new level. It's basically like having your own color corrector, that dials the knobs for you. It's not perfect, but you will have a very good starting point.

There are many providers of LUT's out there, but we will use LUT's from a company called Ground Control in this tutorial. Casey Faris have made a tailored package of LUT's that matches the footage from Mavic Pro. The Griffin package contains many different LUT's that will allow you to both colors correct and grade your footage.

Ground Control offers a FREE sample, that will let you try an LUT with Davinci Resolve 14. You can get this sample from if you sign up for the Ground Control newsletter:

You need some sample footage for practice. This needs to be recorded with the flat color profile DLOG to preserve as much information as possible. I have included some sample footage you can use, in case you don't want to make it yourself.

The style settings should be -1, -3, -3 for sharpness, contrast, and saturation. It's very important that you use these settings as the LUT has been optimized for that.

Resolve has many possibilities and even I don't know them all. But Casey Faris from Ground control has a lot of tutorials on his channel that can help you master drone footage with Resolve like a champ. I definitely recommend to check out his channel:
