Church of Saint-Nazaire in Sanary-sur-Mer / France. Fresco by Jean-Baptiste Garrigou, a unique work.
Majestic, Christ is surrounded by the two alpha and Omega Letters, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. They refer to a passage from the New Testament (Revelation 21, 26) in which Jesus says that he is "the Principle and the End", The only Master of time and history. The Phillips halo that nimbus his head and the blue of his mantle tell us that he is God, while the red of his tunic recalls that he assumes our human nature.
Christ holds the open book of the Gospels on the page where he reveals to men: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father but through me." John 14:6
Jean 14:6
