A University of Idaho professor has sued a popular TikTok user for defamation, saying she is blatantly accusing her of the Moscow murders.
Ashley Guillard, or TikTok user @ashleyisinthebookoflife, is being sued by Rebecca Scofield, whose been a U of I professor since 2018.
According to court documents, Guillard has posted many TikToks claiming Scofield participated in the murders and was romantically involved with one of the victims.
Guillard, whose title on TikTok is "Ashley Solves Mysteries," promotes herself as an internet sleuth who uses tarot cards and other methods to solve high-profile unsolved murders.
Court documents state Guillard began posting TikTok videos about the University of Idaho murders on or around November 22, saying that the murderer was "possibly and ex."
The lawsuit says Guillard falsely accused Scofield of being in a relationship with Kaylee Goncalves, one of the murdered students, and also claimed she was responsible for the murders.
Attorney Wendy Olson, who is representing Rebecca Scofield, released the following statement on the defamation lawsuit:
“The statements made about Professor Scofield are false, plain and simple. What’s even worse is that these untrue statements create safety issues for the Professor and her family. They also further compound the trauma that the families of the victims are experiencing and undermine law enforcement efforts to find the people responsible in order to provide answers to the families and the public. Professor Scofield twice sent cease and desist letters to Ms. Guillard, but Ms. Guillard has continued to make false statements, knowing they are false. Thus, this lawsuit became necessary to protect Professor Scofield’s safety and her reputation.”
Guillard has since made multiple TikToks adressing the lawsuit, saying Scofield will "regret" having filed it.
