Dal Palak!
I know sounds boring but trust me this is very simple and probably the most healthy Dal recipe you can make in a short amount of time.
It is hearty, filling, and undeniably nutritious.
This Indian side dish combines classic spices, onion, ginger, garlic, and green chili with lentils and spinach. A bit of tomato rounds it out.
INGREDIENTS TO COOK DAL
1 Cup Toor Dal (soaked In water)
3 Cup Water
1/2 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp Salt
Palak 2-3 (Spinach)
1 onion Chopped
Pinch of Hing
2 Tomatoes
2 Green Chillies
1tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
2 Tbsp Desi Ghee
1 tsp Cumin Seeds
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
1 tsp Coriander Powder
1 tsp Garam Masala
INGREDIENTS TO MAKE TADKA
1 Tsp Desi Ghee
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
A pinch of Hing (Asafoetida)
2 Dried Red Chillies
Method
1. To make dal palak we need to cook the dal first. So for that place a pressure cooker on the stove on medium flame.
2. Now add the soaked toor dal, turmeric powder, salt and enough water for the dal to Cook well.
3. Close the lid and give 2-3 whistles. Once down keep aside and let it cool down on it's own. We will prepare the masala till then.
4. For the masala we need to make paste. So take a grinder add all the chopped tomatoes, ginger garlic paste and green chilly. And make fine paste. For the palak wash well with water and remove the stems. It will help the dal palak from being bitter in taste. Chop them roughly. Keep aside.
5. Now place a pan on the stove on low-medium flame. Add ghee. Once the ghee is hot add the cumin seeds. Let it spullter. Add pinch of hing.
5. Then add chopped onions cook well for 2-3 mins. Cook for again 2-3 mins.
6. Now add the tomatoe paste. As soon as you add tomatoes, salt to taste, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, coriander powder And cook on low flame until tomatoes are cooked well and the ghee starts oozing. This will take 5-6 mins
7. Now add the chopped Palak/Spinach. And let It cook well with with masala. (Cover the lid). Keep stirring in between.
8. Now add the cooked Dal. Add water if required. Cook for another 2-3 mins on low flame. Keep stirring in between. Give it a boil.
9. Now lastly add Garam Masala. Then cover and cook for 2-3 mins more. Off the gas.
10. Now lets make the tadka. Take a small pan. Heat it on medium flame. Add ghee, cumin seeds, dry red chillies. Let it cook for a min. Once done add directly into the dal palak and immediately close the lid. Open the lid after a minute and serve the dal palak with Hot Steam Rice.
