A family travel up the Sepik River in a large dugout canoe.
During the dry season men will cut down large trees and skilled craftsmen will carve out the inside of the tree to make a canoe.
Using only axes this can take weeks to hollow out.
Once carved out they will cover the canoe in leaves and set on fire with the charcoal helping to seal the boat.
Once the rains fall and floods the grasslands they will float these boats downstream to use.
