This is a critical analysis of HOPE IS THE THING WITH FEATHERS by Emily Dickinson. This is one of Dickinson's more popular "definition poems". Here, Emily discusses the nature of hope. In this line-by-line analysis, we look at the array of poetic devices used to explore a particular understanding of success. The general metaphor is that hope is a bird, but it's a little more complicated than that. After watching this video, be sure to check out my analysis of SUCCESS IS COUNTED SWEETEST by Emily Dickinson. Both are definition poems and share a very structure.
