(27 Jan 2011) HEADLINE: Haitian police take ex-dictator to court
CAPTION: Haitian police led ex-dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier out of his hotel and took him to court Tuesday without saying whether he was being charged with crimes committed under his brutal regime. (Jan. 18)
The former dictator of Haiti has been taken to court in the capital there, however it's still not clear what, if any charges, he may be facing.
Jean-Claude Duvalier, better known as Baby Doc, was led out of his hotel by armed police officers and then driven to the courthouse on Tuesday.
Duvalier did not comment as he was being escorted away.
He was not handcuffed at the time and reporters were NOT allowed into the courthouse to view the proceedings.
However Duvalier's attorney told the A-P by phone that he had absolutely not been charged and didn't expect him to be held much longer.
Baby Doc ruled a brutal regime from 19-71 to 19-86 when he was forced into exile by a mass uprising.
Many are now calling for his arrest on human rights charges, however it's not certain if the Haitian judical system can mount a case against him.
