Bismillah. Using Zamzam to do Ruqyah, to cure oneself from sihr, sihr aswad, black magic, evil eye, sorcery and/or witchcraft. To begin, as a direct student of Sheikh AbdeRaouf Ben Halima (حَفِظَهُ اللَّهُ) and as a part-time raqi who is trying to implement it in the classical method of the salaf, Allah bless them, there is much to say concerning ruqiya treatment.
Long story short, yes you can use Zamzam to treat sihr aswad or black magic. Firstly, you need to refer yourself to the correct methods from Qur’an and sunnah. For those who want to use Zamzam water and recite Qur’an to it, there is nothing incorrect to it, there is no bid’ah in it and it is permissible. It’s permissible to recite Qur’an on Zamzam and any other type of regular drinking water. So, I clarify, there is no objection to reciting over Zamzam seeking cure just as there is no objection to reciting over any other water. Alhamdulilahi Rabbil Alameen.
Although it is permissible, did the prophet (ﷺ) do it? Did he (ﷺ) recite Qur’an on Zamzam water? Allah knows best. When you research, it has not been proven that the Prophet (ﷺ) recited Qur’an on Zamzam water for any of his Companions to drink, nor did he wipe his body with it for any reason, hoping to cure him from an ailment, although he was blessed and of high rank and he was keen on doing good for his people. Also, he repeatedly went to the Zamzam well before his migration to Madinah, and during his Umrah and Hajj after migration. It was not affirmed that he guided his Companions to read over the water so that they could use it to cure themselves as they did with other water, in spite of its blessing according to the aforementioned ahadeeth.
So despite this, it is still agreed upon that reciting Qur’an on Zamzam is permissible. However, do not use any mumbo jumbo methodologies from the ahlul bid’ah and the modern day wishy washy Sufi sects. Please refer to the Qur’an and Sunnah and reference yourself to a qualified raqi who is well reputed in the field of ruqiya in-sha-Allah.
You must understand that from authentic hadith that Zamzam is a treatment and cure to all illnesses and sicknesses. It is also clear from hadith that Zamzam is used for whatever it is drunk for. ‘Aishah (Radia-Allaahu ‘anha) said that she used to carry Zamzam water and that the Prophet (ﷺ) also carried it with him. [At-Tirmidhi and authenticated by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah as-Saheeha no. 883]
Al-Hakim at-Tirmidhi (رحمه الله) said: The drinker of Zamzam water, if he drinks to satisfy his hunger, Allah makes him full up, if he drinks to quench, Allah quenches his thirst, if he drinks for healing, Allah heals him, if he drinks to rid himself of bad behaviour, Allah improves his behaviour, if he drinks because he feels anxiety, Allah calms him down and gives him relief, if he drinks to enrich his mind, Allah makes him rich, if he drinks for a need, Allah provides it to him, if he is smitten with fear, Allah gives him serenity, if he drinks because of a plight, Allah makes it disappear, if he drinks for a victory, Allah will grant it to him, and whenever he drinks it with a good intention and goodness, Allah will guarantee it to him, as he asked by means of a gift from Heaven descended by Allah Most High for help. [Nawadir al-usul fi aḥadīth ar-rasul (274/3)]
When one is inflicted with black magic, look into the solutions from the Qur’an and sunnah. This is a trial and a test from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. It is only Allah who cures all ailments, turn yourself to Him and follow the Qur’an and sunnah. May Allah keep us healthy and protect us from the doers of evil, ameen.
