Vodka, grain alcohol, or any flavor extract for painting
Equipment needed:

Rubber spatula
Rolling pin
Plate or shallow dish
Parchment lined baking sheets
Small bowls for thinning icing and mixing icing colors
Instructions
Make the cookie dough according to the package instructions (if using agave syrup, add it to the butter with the egg and continue to make the dough as instructed).
Cut the cookies from a chilled sheet of cookie dough according to the package instructions. You will get about 16 to 18 cookies using the 4” cookie cutter.
Bake the cookies at 350˚ Fahrenheit for 10 to 12 minutes. Allow them to cool completely before decorating.
Make a batch of royal icing from scratch or a mix. The icing should hold a stiff peak. Set aside about ½ cup of stiff consistency icing.
Add a teaspoon of water at a time to the rest of the royal icing to thin it to flood consistency. To test the consistency, take a scoop of icing out of the bowl and drop it back in. It should take 15 to 20 seconds to be completely smooth.
Fill a tipless bag halfway with the white flood consistency icing. Close the top of the bag with a bag tie, rubber band, or clip. This will prevent the icing from spilling out of the top.
Place one drop of each food coloring into separate wells of the paint palette. Add a few drops of vodka, grain alcohol, or any flavor extract. Mix the color with the brush (there might be some solid color that sinks to the bottom).
Cut a tiny opening in the tip of the bag and pipe the icing onto a plate. The area of the icing should be slightly larger than the cookie.
Paint lines of color on the wet icing. It’s best to only use two colors at a time. If you use all three colors at once, the colors will blend and the icing will turn brown as you continue to dip the cookies.
Dip one cookie into the icing, moving it back and forth and up and down to create swirls. Add more color to the icing and dip again to create layers of swirls. Continue adding color and dipping the cookie until you’re satisfied with the pattern.
Allow the cookies to dry overnight.
Fit a decorating bag with a coupler and a decorating tip 3. Fill the bag with the leftover stiff consistency royal icing.
Pipe a filigree pattern and a bead border with the stiff consistency icing.
Allow the icing to dry for about an hour before packaging the cookies.
