Brandrode runderen grazen op de golvende weilanden van landgoed Mariëndaal, op de stuwwal van Arnhem. Hier werd omstreeks 1865 een berceau of loofgang van beuken geplant, die in de wandeling de 'Groene Bedstee' wordt genoemd. Deze is uitgegroeid tot een indrukwekkende groene tunnel.
The Meuse Rhine Issel is a hardy and productive breed of cattle that originated in the Netherlands and Germany. In the Netherlands, it was developed in the region of the three rivers from which it gets its name: Meuse, Rhine and Issel. In Germany it is known there as the Rotbunt.
It was deveoped in the second halve of the 19th century.
The purpose was to create a cattle breed that can be used for the production of dairy and beef. There are about 35.000 Meuse Rhine IJssel cattle in the Netherlands. The breed is known as MRI or MRIJ for short.
