SpongeBob SquarePants is a minifigure introduced in 2006, representing the main character in the SpongeBob SquarePants theme.

SpongeBob lives in a pineapple under the sea. Eternally cheerful and optimistic, he constantly gets on the nerves of his egotistical and depressing next-door neighbor, Squidward. They both work at the Krusty Krab for the miserly, manipulative Mr. Krabs. SpongeBob's best friends are Patrick Star, a dopey, overweight starfish, and Sandy Cheeks, a spunky Texan "land squirrel" who lives in an air-filled glass dome just outside of SpongeBob's home town of Bikini Bottom. Frequent themes in the show include SpongeBob's never-ending efforts to get his boating license, and various devious attempts by Mr. Krabs' arch-nemesis, Plankton, to steal the recipe for the popular Krabby Patty.

Patrick Star has been stated as Spongebob's best friend. He is also considered the least intelligent of all of SpongeBob's friends, but considered to be probably the funniest character of the series. Patrick is a pink starfish. He wears no shirt, but green swimming trunks with purple flower designs. He lives under a rock and is neighbors with Spongebob Squarepants and Squidward. In 2006 upon Patrick's first release, he had a bare belt and legs, in 2007 he had decorated legs, however in the 2009 boxart the bottom section of the belt was coloured the same shade of his skin, which caused toy controversy. He was re-introduced in 2011. In 3815 Heroic Heroes of The Deep, he has a green eyemask, a green cape, a yellow torso with the symbol of a star, a belt and yellow legs with green spandex and green boots.

Sandy is a land squirrel scientist. She comes from Texas, but moved to Bikini Bottom to study its inhabitants, and eventually chose to stay permanently. Since then, she has made many friends, especially SpongeBob SquarePants, and Patrick Star. Since Sandy breathes air, she has to wear a special suit and helmet while underwater, and lives in a substantial "Tree-Dome" populating with air.

Mr. Krabs is the cheap, stingy owner and manager of the Krusty Krab restaurant, and the employer of SpongeBob and Squidward. He is obsessed with money and will go to any length to save a few cents or earn a few more. Despite knowing that his business almost completely depends on SpongeBob's mastery with the spatula, he will manipulate and overwork his employees any chance he gets. He also has to contend with constant attempts by his business rival, Plankton, to steal the secret and lucrative Krabby Patty formula. He's not married but has a daughter, a whale named Pearl.
