Shot in Cleveland (once again). By being a good Samaritan, Todd finds himself in the middle of a convict's plot to escape while on his way to begin a double life sentence for a double murder. Great directing and great acting by the great Rod Steiger. We also need to credit Milner for one of his best episodes as an actor. The veteran and trustful Ed Asner is back for his 5th Route 66 TV episode.
We spend a lot of time inside the Cleveland Union Terminal, built by real estate developers the Van Sweringen brothers - who had risen out of poverty - as part of a complex that included the Terminal Tower we see in the closing shot - at 52 stories, the tallest building in the world outside NY City until 1967 - plus a department store and hotel in front of Public Square. An ambitious project that showed the prowess of Cleveland in its industrial heydays. The station opened in 1929 and stopped being used in 1977. Most of the platform area was demolished in the late 1980s. The station area itself was converted into a three-story shopping mall and food court known as The Avenue, which opened in 1990.
The Ferro Mural so prominently displayed was created by the Ferro Enamel Corporation of Cleveland for the 1939 World's Fair in NY, was designed by J. Scott Williams and its porcelain panels were painted by Cleveland art instructor Daniel Boza. After the Fair, the mural was relocated to the Union Terminal concourse till its renovation in 1982, when it was moved to the Western Reserve Historical Society Museum in Cleveland where it is on display. You can see a picture of this striking work of art in brilliant color here: [ Ссылка ].
The house at the 3576 address was next door to Production Manager Sam Manners's boyhood home in the West End.
Cleveland Stadium used by the Indians and Browns seen in the background of the phone booth was demolished in 1996 to make way for FirstEnergy Stadium, which opened in 1999.
The wedding was filmed at Jim's Steak House across the river (and next to the Firehouse), which closed in 1997 (ad "Mega Nightclub") after 67 years and later demolished.
