At least 37 people died in a bus crash in western India early this morning, police said. The Mumbai-bound overnight bus was travelling from Goa when the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel while crossing a bridge, according to some reports. The bus broke through the guardrail and fell off the bridge, ending upside down in the almost dry river below.
The incident took place near Khed in Maharashtra state, about 200 km south of Mumbai. Fifteen people on the bus, including the driver, sustained injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
