This is Queen's final show in Ireland and their only appearance at Slane Castle, probably the most popular and famous music venue in Ireland, having hosted the famous Slane Festival ever since 1981. Demand for this show was huge and while "only" around 90 to 92,000 people paid for tickets, nearly 100,000 people tried to enter the grounds of Slane Castle and its nearby River Boyne from 9am onwards, nine hours before Queen's show was supposed to begin and four hours before the first supporting act came on, making an accurate attendance absolutely impossible. Naturally, with so many people during a hot summer day and lots of alcohol being drunk, events go down similarly to Queen's famous Hyde Park show almost ten years before in similar circumstances. Only 13 minutes into the show, Freddie has to stop the show and stop a fight. To lighten up the mood afterwards, he does his Ay-Oh a bit earlier and the band, upon getting back into the medley, cut off the 'Liar' snippet for the only time on this tour. Later on, Brian is apparently hit by a beer can and has to be talked into even finishing the show, leading the band to cut the second encore break to speed things up a little. He would later call this one of his worst concert experiences with Queen. Nevertheless, there are plenty great moments in this show, mainly because Freddie's voice has gotten a bit stronger again and the band do several fun improvs, reprising 'Gimme Some Lovin' with an extended 'Keep Yourself Alive' jam before the guitar solo, during which, just like in 1984 and 1979, Brian plays a few verses of the Irish traditional 'Danny Boy'. Further changes to the show include 'God Save the Queen' not being played on tape as the show closes (in truth, nothing is played at all as Freddie just gives his goodbyes over the crowd cheering), the British flag gag is axed and Freddie also skips the Queen dress up at the end of the show although he does appear with his crown during 'One Vision', perhaps adding to the tension early on.
Snippets at this show: 'Gimme Some Lovin' by The Spencer Davis Group and 'Keep Yourself Alive' (both after the Impromptu), 'Danny Boy' (during Brian's guitar solo) and 'Johnny B. Goode' by Chuck Berry (during 'Now I'm Here' and before the big 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' jam).
