Welcome to Director’s Cut, the intersection between food and film. In this episode, DeVonn Francis (founder of the NYC food, media, and event company Yardy World that specializes in cooking up contemporary Caribbean meals) meets artist, filmmaker, and activist Tourmaline. Together they discuss the importance of cake, while making a cake, and dig into Tourmaline’s film ‘Happy Birthday, Marsha!’, which also features a cake. Cake!
‘Happy Birthday, Marsha!’ is a film about Marsha “Pay it No Mind” Johnson and her life in the hours before she ignited the 1969 Stonewall Riots movement in New York City.
Dim the lights, perfectly pour yourself a cold Stella, and enjoy.
