Let's go ahead and replace the map sensor, or the manifold absolute pressure sensor, on this Jeep Cherokee with a four liter engine. Now it's relatively straightforward and easy to access here. You'll see, we've got a three-wire connector here and a vacuum hose connected directly to the intake manifold here so it can monitor engine vacuum and determine the load. So it knows how much fuel to add to the air fuel mixture.
So, I pull the vacuum hose off. Set that aside. I'm going to disconnect our electrical connector. Then I'm going to take a seven millimeter end wrench and hold the nut on the bottom here and my ratchet, with a seven millimeter socket, and simply go ahead and remove these two nut and bolt assemblies.
Once we get the nuts and bolts out of the way, our old sensor comes right out. And we'll take our new sensor and bolt it up into place as well in the same location. Once our connections are made, the job is complete. If they're in trouble code set, we might want to go in and clear those out. But the new map sensor should be ready to rock and roll.
