A pro-opposition TV station has come under attack in the Maldives just hours before the Supreme Court annulled the results of the September 7 presidential election.
The country has been in political limbo since former President Mohamed Nasheed was allegedly removed from power by a police mutiny 20 months ago.
Nasheed won the first round of voting, but failed to get the required 50 percent of the vote to claim outright victory.
The Supreme Court cancelled the run-off set for September 28 after police submitted a confidential report claiming vote rigging.
International observers declared the vote free and fair.
A new election is set for October 20.
The court also handed the police a substantial role in logistics and security as well as insisting that the electoral commission collaborates with the state in the sharing of information.
