Sporadic incidents have been reported of some taxi operators stopping other taxis from operating and forcing passengers out of taxis in the Durban CBD. Scores of people in the city have been left stranded in areas far from their destinations as some taxi drivers are not getting into the city for fear of being attacked. Police are monitoring the situation. This comes after SANTACO and the KwaZulu-Natal Taxi Alliance called for a stay away. They say the police keep impounding their taxis without justification.
