#2S35 #Koalitsiya SV / 2С35 Коалиция СВ ( "Coalition-SV" ) is a new Russian self-propelled #howitzer, a successor to the 2S19 Msta-S and also intended to supplement and eventually replace the 2S19 Msta in the Russian Ground Forces.
2S35 Koalitsiya SV is a latest 152mm self-propelled howitzer from JSC Central Research Institute Burevestnik (Petrel), a division of Uralvagonzavod based in Nizhny Novgorod.
Development on the howitzer began in 2006
The 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV tracked self-propelled howitzer is armed with the new 2A88 cannon 152mm which is under development. During travelling, the cannon is held in position by a travelling lock mounted on the glacis plate. The 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV can fire a wide range of munitions, including standard and rocket-assisted HE-FRAG projectiles, cluster projectiles with anti-tank submunitions, jammer carrying projectiles. It has a maximum firing range of 30 km with standard ammunition and around 40 km with a rocket-assisted projectile. It has also a fully automated ammunition loading and handling system with 8 rounds per minute rate of fire. The S2S35 is able to fire a new generation of 9K25, the 152 mm Krasnopol laser-guided projectile which has a maximum range of 20 km. When the Krasnopol is in flight, four fixed fins unfold to the rear with four movable control surfaces unfolding to the front. It uses inertial guidance for the middle part of the trajectory with semi-active laser homing being used for the terminal phase when the target is illuminated by the tripod-mounted laser designator. To increase its self-protection, a remote weapon station armed with a 12.7×108mm ZiD Kord Remote weapon station is mounted on the top of the turret. Three smoke grenade dischargers are mounted either side at the front of the turret. The turret is also equipped with an automatic loading system. The Koalitsiya-SV is equipped with a remote firing control system.
The 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV layout is very similar to the 2S19 howitzer, with the driver compartment at the front, turret in the middle of the hull and power pack at the rear.
The crew consists of three soldiers, driver, commander and gunner. The 2S35`s crew is located in an isolated armored module. According to our analysis of the first pictures of the 2S35, three hatches are located at the front of the chassis, then we can suppose that there is no crew in the turret. The hull and turret are of all-welded steel armor construction which provides protection from small arms fire, shell splinters and mines.
The 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV uses components of the T-90 MBT chassis motorized with a turbocharged diesel engine developing 1,000 hp. The suspension is of the torsion bar type with either side having six roadwheels, idler at the front, drive sprocket at the rear and five track-return rollers, with the upper part of the track being covered by a skirt.
Features of the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV include warning receiver, night vision, microwave shell priming system, nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protection system, and shock absorber.
