(19 Nov 2016) The Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, kicked off a four-day visit to Mongolia with a chanting ceremony in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, on Saturday.
The Nobel Laureate dressed in his traditional robe was joined for the ritual by monks from across the country.
Thousands of Buddhist enthusiasts stood in the snow at Gandantegcnhenlen (Gandan) Monastery to see the visiting monk.
The Dalai Lama's visit comes at a time when Mongolia is seeking approximately 4 (b) billion US dollars from China including soft loans, investments and a currency swap to stem a balance of payments crisis.
Beijing has declared the exiled leader a "separatist" following his call for autonomy in Tibet.
On Friday, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded Mongolia cancel the visit.
