Fishing line is our most common culprit for seal entanglements. Seals and the fishing industry compete for the same resource: fish. Naturally, they often cross paths. They both seek areas rich in fish. Conflicts between humans and animals usually do not end well for the animal, especially in the ocean, when the consequences of discarded fishing gear are barely visible. Discarded fishing gear conveniently disappears in the waves as if nothing had happened.
Entanglements cause immense pain and suffering, but it all takes place in silence and below the ocean's surface. We appreciate the opportunity to raise awareness for the often-forgotten victims of the global plastic crisis on our social media channels. Please watch and share widely. 🦭
