6. SOUNDBITE: (English) David Petreaus, former CIA Director:
"Thanks for President Obama for the confidence in an old soldier. I have had a great retirement. It's been a terrific week, and the opportunity though that I've been provided is truly extraordinary to continue to contribute to the very important missions that so many of us have been involved in for a number of years now, but particularly for the course of the last decade."

8. SOUNDBITE: (English) Julie Pace, AP White House reporter:
"You know, one of the questions will be - was the affair something that compromised the intelligence community? Was the affair something that made it impossible for him to stay in that job? The statement that Petraeus released today simply stated that it was an extra-marital affair and that he felt that, given his prominent role, that was unacceptable behaviour and he could no longer lead this agency."

10. SOUNDBITE: (English) Julie Pace, AP White House reporter:
"On the surface level, there doesn't seem to be any direct connection between Petraeus resigning because of this affair and Benghazi. It's never mentioned in the letter that he sent out announcing his resignation. It's never mentioned in the letter that the Director of National Intelligence released announcing, you know, also that Petraeus had resigned. But, this is one of the real topics that has been discussed about the intelligence community in the past couple of months, and there have obviously been a lot of questions about what the CIA's involvement was in Benghazi, whether some of the personnel who were in Libya were actually CIA agents."

12. SOUNDBITE: (English) Julie Pace, AP White House reporter:
"We hadn't heard a lot about, sort of, personality conflicts, but what we actually did hear a lot about with Petraeus is that he kept a low profile at the CIA. You didn't actually hear much from him right after the Benghanzi attacks in particular, and there were some questions about whether that was actually the right approach, whether he needed to have more of a public persona."
