"My dad passed away in 2012-rest in peace," says Chicago-born Georgia-raised rapper Lil Candy Paint when asked how he got his name. "He loved candy, and I love candy. To be honest I don't even eat food. And we both love cars, so...."
During a recent visit to MASS APPEAL HQ, Paint explained how he struggled to find direction in life. "I thought I was gonna try to go to college and do some bullshit, My mom wanted me to go to the military and a whole bunch of other shit. I was lost," he admits. "I didn't know what I was gonna do."
Inspired by artists like Chief Keef, Lil B, and Weezy, Paint began to take music seriously, stepping into the rap game around 2016 with records like "Internet Thug," and "Scam Money." In late 2017 he dropped the EP 'No Regrets' with the hit single "Bussin." But to hear him tell it, he's just getting started.
"I don't really pay attention to too many people to be honest-unless it's n****s around me.," says the artist who's made links with Duwap Kaine, Warhol.ss, K$UPREME, and SLIMESITO. For now he's making moves in L.A. But when he makes his millions don't expect Pain to return to his home town. "Chicago ass when it come to people... Everybody suck low-key," he says. "Atlanta hot. Hella hoes. Atlanta low-key lit. It's a place to settle down, but not when I'm 18."
