The Three Directions of Love
Matthew 22:34-40
ABC Vision: To be disciples who make disciples of Jesus Christ
• Being a Disciple:
o Choose to follow Jesus
o Be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
o Learn how to obey Jesus (a lifelong process)
• Making Disciples:
o Call other people to follow Jesus with you
o Baptize those who choose to follow Jesus
o Teach them the content and application of Jesus’s commands - both by your words and by modeling obedience for them
ABC Mission: To grow in love for God, one another, and the lost
• Love because you are loved (1 John 4:16, 19)
• The Three Directions of Love: Up, In, & Out
o UP: Love for God (Matthew 22:37-38; Deuteronomy 6:4-5; Matthew 10:37; John 14:15)
o IN: Love for One Another (1 John 4:7-8, 11; John 13:34-35)
o OUT: Love for the Lost (John 13:35; Matthew 22:39; 5:44-48; 28:19)
