The Delta variant, first discovered in India, is becoming the most prominent strain of coronavirus around the world. Dr. Swaminathan says the variant’s ‘significantly increased transmissibility’ makes it roughly 60% more transmissible than the other widely-spread variant first reported in the UK. According to JHU, nearly 180 million people around the globe have been infected with coronavirus and almost 4 million people have died.
