Protecting your bag, from when you first buy it, is our number one tip for increasing the life of your handbag and retaining its value. 👜
It’s important to promote the protection of all your handbags, whether they be leather or fabric! Not only will the protection treatment will keep your item looking great for longer but it will reduce the likelihood of professionals needing to get involved and the subsequent life long maintenance costs that follow!
Throughout lockdown, and in particular Christmas, a high number of red-wine-stained handbags arrived in our Clinic; this may be the result of alcohol consumption increasing across households nationwide. Obviously, accidents do happen so if you accidentally stain your bag there are some steps you can follow to reduce the staining and ensure this causes as little damage as possible before handing it over to the experts!
Do not apply water or any cleaning products you may have to hand - you will at this point only make the staining worse. Instead, start by blotting the stained area as soon as possible with a clean, dry cloth or tissue - you want to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Once you have removed the excess liquid, you should then blot the stained area with a damp cloth or tissue using warm water only. Start at the outside of the stain and work inwards; this will stop the stain from spreading outwards.
Ultimately, our products work towards extending the life of your beloved bag. However, should your handbag require further assistance, it’s pivotal that you contact us immediately so we can minimise the time between the accident and treatment, as the longer the stain has to absorb into the fabric, our ability to remove it will reduce.
Upon arrival in our clinic, our team will assess which products are most suited to your particular handbag and will use a range of specialist products to try to remove the stain. We will clean the item multiple times until we see no further improvement, to ensure that it is as close to its former splendour as possible! ✨
If you have one of our Handbag Care Kits, you should clean the stained area with the cleaner in the kit. As before, you should then proceed to dab the stained area with a dry cloth or tissue to absorb any left-over water or cleaner. Never rub the stained area as this can cause the stain to spread. Do not apply heat directly to the stained area as this can set the stain. Your bag is best left to dry in a warm room.
If any staining remains once dried, contact Handbag Clinic for a quote, stain removal starts at just £50:
