The Orchestra, since their foundation, has found value in joining forces with well-known conductors and outstanding contemporary composers. The collaboration history of the orchestra includes celebrated musicians such as J.Careras, M.Rostropovich, Y.Bashmet, G.Kremer, V.Tretjakov, N.Gutman, V.Repin, A.Kniazev, G.Hoffman, N.Freire, L.Leonskaia, F.Leuleux, M.Lethiec, E.Virsaladze, L.Batiashvili, Kh.Buniatishvili, and many others.
Presently the repertoire of the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra is very diverse, encompassing the works by Classical, Romantic and 20th century composers. The Orchestra produces many collaborative artistic projects, has performed with world stars of popular music: M.Legrand, D.Lockwood, J.Garbarek, B.James, P.Austin, I.Lins, Y.Gottfried, M. Pietrodarchi, vocal groups – ‘The Manhattan Transfer’, ’TAKE 6′, ‘New York Voices’, and ‘The Swingles.’
The Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1993, has become the leading music ensemble and household name of Georgian Music, not only within the country, but outside its borders as well. The high-level artistic standards of the orchestra led them to numerous concert tours in France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Turkey, and Israel. Renowned concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Salle Pleyel and Theatre de Champs Elyssee in Paris, Symphony Hall in Basel, Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt, Verdi Concert Hall in Milan, Santa Cecilia Music Academy New Symphony Hall in Rome and more, have hosted their performances.
TSO was founded by legendary Georgian Conductor Jansug Kakhidze in 1993 and has been under the artistic direction of his son, Vakhtang Kakhidze since 2002.
