Mashle: Magic and Muscles (Japanese: マッシュル-MASHLE-, Hepburn: Masshuru) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Kōmoto. It has been serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since January 2020, with its chapters collected in 16 tankōbon volumes as of April 2023. An anime television series adaptation by A-1 Pictures premiered in April 2023.

Set in a magical world in which an individual's position within society is defined by their power and skill with magic, Mash Burnedead is a young man without so much as an ounce of magic in his blood. In order to live a peaceful life with his adoptive father, Regro, Mash will need to become a Divine Visionary (神覚者, Shinkakusha), a title which is only given to exceptional students from the Easton Magic Academy. Despite having no magic whatsoever, Mash goes to the magic school, determined to survive and show the world that muscles can beat magic.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles, written and illustrated by Hajime Kōmoto [ja], started in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump on January 27, 2020.[3][4] Shueisha has collected is chapters into individual tankōbon volumes. The first volume was released on June 4, 2020.[5] As of April 4, 2023, sixteen volumes have been released.[6]
The manga is digitally serialized by Viz Media and Manga Plus in English.[7] In October 2020, Viz Media announced the print and digital publication of the manga and the first volume was published on July 6, 2021.[8][9]

An anime television series adaptation was announced in July 2022. The series is produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Tomoya Tanaka, with scripts written by Yōsuke Kuroda, character designs by Hisashi Toshima, and music composed by Masaru Yokoyama.[10] It premiered on April 8, 2023, on Tokyo MX and other networks.[11][12][a] The opening theme song is "Knock Out" by Taiiku Okazaki, while the ending theme song is "Shū Cream Funk" (シュークリーム・ファンク, "Cream Puff Funk") by Philosophy no Dance.[12] According to the official website of the series, it will be a "complete" anime adaptation.[13]
Aniplex of America revealed an English version of the announcement video at their Anime Expo panel on July 3, 2022.[14] On February 21, 2023, Crunchyroll announced that they would stream the series;[15] an English dub premiered on May 26 of the same year.[16] Medialink licensed the series in Asia-Pacific and streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
Notes
Tokyo MX lists the air dates for the series on Friday at 24:00, which is effectively Saturday at midnight JST.[12]
