If your worm bin is older, larger & the bedding & worms are mature, then feel free to give them a big frozen food scrap popsicle to get them making worm castings & organic natural fertilizer and soil amendments faster. But if this is a new worm bin, a small worm bin, or a bin that is mostly bedding and not much castings, then your composting worms are probably not ready for a feeding this size...if you are a home vermicomposter. Commercial vermicomposters are on a whole other level, so they will have different rules of thumb.
In this video we do a final update of the frozen vs raw cabbage experiment. I was a little surprised how much the raw cabbage was consumed after seeing little progress on day 11. I also find loads of worms...one of the reasons I had no problem giving a massive food scrap feeding to my red wigglers in this 20 gallon Outdoor Worm Bin. I also update the Mango Seed which is by now, just the outer shell.
Quick warning, right when I put in the massive feeding the wind kicked up, so please bear with me and the sound during that time (I tried to edit it out, but it didn't work very well).
Epigeic worms or composting worms are fascinating natural composters & fertilizers that are in most homesteaders bag of tricks to make free organic fertilizer & soil amendments. I have 3 worm composing bins which you can watch from start to finished worm castings on the 3 playlists following each bin.
