In this video, James Ivey and Paul Drew check out 3 of the finest Dumble style amps you can buy, A Two Rock Classic Reverb Signature, A RedPlate Overdrive Classic, and a FUCHS ODS 11.
RPHD Overdrive Classic
Our tribute to the famous recording/performance amps of the ‘80’s and ‘90’s, the RPHD Overdrive Classic is our recreation of arguably the best boutique amp of that era.
Faithfully reproduced and meticulously tweaked, to deliver those “player’s player” tones from yesteryear.
The RPHD Overdrive Classic features an absolutely full range clean preamp with bright, mid, and rock/jazz switches, and the smooth woody overdrive section that made this style of amplifier famous. 100 watts of 6L6 power makes the RPHD Overdrive Classic the star of any show. In 2016, we added new features and improved perfection! This new version of the RPHD now includes a voicing switch for matching the amplifier to your guitar type and we've made the FET input available from the footswitch with an adjustable gain level. It's like having a clean boost without the hassle of another pedal. The RPHD Overdrive Classic comes complete with a 4 button footswitch (MidBoost, Overdrive, Boost and FET). The RPHD Overdrive Classic can also be built as a 50 watt amp, if that fits your needs.
Two Rock Classic Reverb Signature
The single-channel Classic Reverb Signature is Two-Rock’s ultimate tone shaping machine. This harmonically rich amp can be pushed into beautiful clean or overdriven tones while still retaining the guitar’s natural voice.
This amp is available as either a 40W (4 x 6V6), 50W (2 x 6L6) head or 100W (4 x6L6) head. Built on either a black or silver anodized aluminum chassis, this amp features our proprietary output transformer, as well as an all tube analog spring reverb, 3 position Gain Structure switch, foot switchable FET, tone stack bypass, and Reverb Defeat which gives this amp a wide range of tonal possibilities that has made this amp an integral part of so many artist’s tone. The three position gain structure switch changes the front end sensitivity and overall feel of the preamp. In the down position the amp feels similar to a vintage blackface, the middle position is much like the Two-Rock Matt Schofield Signature front end with a hotter input stage, and the full up position is our traditional Two-Rock front end. On 100 watt models the amp is switchable from 100 watts to 50 watts. Same goes for our 40 watt version which is switchable from 40 watts to 20 watts. On 50 watt models, the high power mode is fixed-biased and the low power mode is cathode biased. On our 100 watt and 40 watt output transformers, when switching wattages the transformer will compensate for impedance and phase differences so you will not have a change in tone and feel.
FUCHS ODS 11
The ODS-II represents Andy Fuchs’ goal to take over 15 years of design evolution and customer feedback on the original Overdrive Supreme platform into the next millennium. Designed along with the new ODS-Classic, the ODS-II is the most versatile d-style tonal platform on the market worldwide. While inspired by classic D-style amps, it advances and improves many aspects and removes many shortcomings of the original iconic amps that inspired us.
Channel one has a dedicated tone stack, dual gain boosts, brite, deep and EQ switches, plus a mid boost and a mid shift pull pot. A channel master volume allows low to medium gain overdrive.
Channel Two has a dedicated tone stack, dual gain boosts, brite, deep and EQ switches, plus a mid boost and a mid shift pull pot. A separate gain stage features a drive, master and overdrive tone control. This channel has tons of gain on tap, going from the mild low-medium D-style gain tones in channel one, to searing higher gain saturated tones.
The global master controls overall gain after each channel is set to it’s own level. The accent control adds high end shimmer. The Spin digital reverb provides separate level and decay controls, allowing studio grade, warm deep reverb tones without the nuisance of reverb pan variability and vulnerability to handling.
The rear panel provides two FX loops: the standard Fuchs loop (series/parallel-line/pedal level with send and return controls) and a secondary loop (line level series only/ pre-power insert), a separate bias pot for each power tube is provided and an accurate digital display of bias readings is provided. An IEC power inlet (global switchable line voltage internally), AC and DC fuses, 4-8-16 ohm outputs via 5 jacks. Ethercon connector(s) for footswitch. Standard 6-way footswitch controls one gain boost per channel, mid boost per channel, reverb and channel switching. Optional Artist footswitch available, adds loop bypass for each loop, operates second gain boost on each channel, as well as adding mute function for use with amp switcher based rigs. A half power (where applicable) and a three way low-off-high fan switch round out the ample rear panel features.
