2016 Volkswagen T6 Transporter TDI Blue Motion Panel Van - Interior, Exterior and Drive.
The T series has been number one for decades. Its predecessor sold almost 2 million units around the world in 13 years. Across the entire series' full 65 years, the figure is around 12 million vehicles. The new Transporter will now continue this success story. Essentially there continues to be three basic categories of the T series – the commercial vehicles (panel van, pick-up, double cab and Kombi), the passenger carriers designed for commercial and private use (Multivan and Caravelle) and the recreational vehicles (California). Two wheelbases and three roof heights additionally multiply the series' great flexibility and functionality. Along with the various engine combinations, this results in over 500 different variants.
The new generation can be recognised above all from its completely new front section. Its design combines stylish linearity with a high degree of power. Consciously positioned, clearly defined lines give the model series a contemporary yet timeless and thus always modern look. With the low front apron, which straightens up almost vertically just above street level, the new generation has also gained in charisma, exclusivity and dynamism. The rear view is distinctive as well. With a horizontal bead, it highlights the vehicle's width in a striking fashion. That is further underlined by the wide rear window and the low reaching number plate recess, which is clearly delineated in its geometric division, along with LED lighting of the number plate. Other eye-catching features include the lowered wing mirrors and the indicator lights set dynamically within the bead. In addition, numerous newly designed wheels define the view from the side.
Engines: The range of power units includes a total of six engines – four new TDI and two TSI engines. Depending on power output, they are coupled with a 5- or 6-six-speed manual gearbox or with a 7-seven-speed DSG. In addition, many variants can be ordered with 4MOTION all-wheel drive regardless of the gearbox version. Furthermore, all engines work extremely efficiently. Across the whole model series, the new engines save a litre of fuel compared to the previous generation. All engines have a stop/start system as standard.
In the T series a completely new generation of TDI engines is being launched for the EU6 markets. Internally it answers to the name 'EA288 Nutz'. This engine has been developed specifically for the tough requirements of a commercial vehicle. Longevity and ruggedness were therefore the top priority. The TDIs available are transversely mounted and angled forwards by eight degrees. They have a cubic capacity of 1,968 cm3 and deliver 62 kW / 84 PS, 75 kW / 102 PS, 110 kW / 150 PS and 150 kW / 204 PS. The petrol option is likewise a four-cylinder engine with a displacement 2.0 litre. It delivers either 110 kW / 150 PS or 150 kW / 204 PS. The maximum torque levels are available from 1,500 rpm and come to 280 or 350 Newton metres. Like the TDI engines, the TSI versions also have an engine start/stop function.
Panel van: The panel van's cargo space is accessible both from the back and the passenger side of the vehicle. The cargo space area measures 4.3 m2. The panel van with normal roof is fitted as standard with a tailgate. Available as an option are two symmetrical rear wing doors. The two rear doors' opening angle is 90 degrees with door latches engaged and 180 or 270 degrees without. The standard sliding door on the passenger side of the vehicle enables easy access to loads transported deep inside the cargo compartment. Anyone for whom that is not enough can also order the new Transporter as a dual loader with a second sliding door on the driver side of the vehicle. There is a choice of cargo space partitions with or without window, half height with or without padded bar.
The cargo space in the base version provides an impressive area of 4.3 m2 and a capacity of 5.8 m3. This increases with a medium-high roof (27.6 cm higher) to 6.7 m³. Over and above this, the panel van is also optionally available with a wheelbase extended by 40 centimetres, which – with a total length of 5.29 metres – offers an outstanding cargo area of 5.0 m². This produces in the normal roof version a load capacity of 6.7m³ and in combination with the medium-high roof a capacity of 7.8m³. The high roof variant is exclusively available with a long wheel base and has a volume of 9.3 m³. At extra cost, an extra-high sliding door is available, while the rear wing doors reach up to the roof as standard.
