(16 Jul 1994) Demonstrations for and against the late North Korean leader Kim
Il-Sung were held in South Korea's capital of Seoul on Saturday
(16/7). University students rallied in protest against police
raids and arrests on Friday (15/7) of student groups and workers
in the provincial Kwangju University, who had planned mourning
ceremonies for Kim Il-Sung and sent messages of condolences to
North Korea.
About 4000 people, many of whom are Korean war refugees from the North,
gathered at Unification Hall in Downtown Seoul. They shouted
slogans and demanded retribution for Kim Il-Sung's crimes.
