A bit of a commentary explaining how I go about hunting a radio transmitter during a 'fox-hunt'. There were two more transmitters that I hunted that evening that I didn't cover in this video for the sake of time.
I use a range of equipment including:
- Icom IC-705 - General purpose receive, mainly for receiving when the signal is quite weak as this is the most sensitive receiver I have.
- VK3YNG Sniffer - Used to get an 'audible signal strength' indication while driving, and also for hand-held direction finding when getting closer to the transmitter.
- Kerberos-SDR + Custom-built circular antenna array - For on-the-move bearings.
- 7-element and 3-element 70cm yagis from Arrow Antennas
- Home-brew 3-element yagi, based on the VK3VT design.
The software I'm running for mapping is Chasemapper, which I originally developed for high-altitude balloon hunting. This is open source, and available here: [ Ссылка ]
These hunts are run by the Amateur Radio Experimenters Group - information on upcoming activities is available on the AREG website at: [ Ссылка ]
