1) What are you doing and where are you from?
I am currently taking my business degree here in Malaysia but I will be transferring to Canada soon. I am from Malaysia.
2) Why did you take the TOEFL and when did you take it?
I took the TOEFL on the 7th February 2021 and I took it because it is a requirement for my university. The university requires a TOEFL score of 90.
3) What was your TOEFL Home experience like?
Overall the experience was pretty good. Everything was very well informed, for example, how to set up all the tech stuff. The TOEFL Home Edition is established now and it is more user-friendly.
4) Were you worried that there may be technical issues in the TOEFL Home Edition?
I was so concerned. I went through the ETS checklist so many times because I was so scared that something might go wrong.
5) How did you erase your notes in the TOEFL Home Edition?
I just used a tissue but I think that was not a good idea because the residue of the marker pen was messing up everything and it was all over the place. I cannot think of an alternative that people could use instead.
6) What was the interaction with the proctor like?
There was not much interaction. The proctor just introduced some rules that I had to obey during the TOEFL test and he told me when I could have a break.
7) Could you only write to the proctor or could you also speak to him and hear him?
I could write and speak to him. When I had a question during the test I spoke to him.
8) Was there a task in the TOEFL that you found really hard?
TOEFL Speaking. I am not so good at organizing what I say. In the TOEFL they expect you to have a very organized speech. I tried to do that but I think it was a little messy.
9) Which TOEFL task was the easiest for you?
TOEFL Listening. It was easier because you do not have to put much thought into it.
10) Do you have a tip for TOEFL Listening?
Just listen very attentively and make sure that you do not lose your focus. I did not have to take notes because when I focused I did not have to write things down. I think listening attentively is more important.
11) How did you prepare to get a high TOEFL score?
First, I watched a lot of Juva’s videos. Second, I took the ETS practice tests which helped me a lot because I understood the structure of the TOEFL test. I think you must know the test format because this will make you confident.
12) You only prepared for 1 week. How was that?
In the beginning I was very scared. I did not know how to do it in one week. I watched your videos for three days straight. Three days before my TOEFL test I took the ETS practice tests. I felt very confident and prepared after that.
13) How long did you have to wait for your TOEFL scores?
I had to wait for about 18 days.
14) What are your future plans?
I plan to go to Canada, get my degree and explore more in the business field. I want to become a very successful entrepreneur that makes an impact and helps people and who contributes to the society.
