Farena is a district of the municipality of Montreal, in the Alto Campo region, in the province of Tarragona, about 13 kilometers from the urban center of La Riba. The section of road between La Riba and Farena is a natural area that is very notable for its flora. Currently the town is practically uninhabited, especially in the winter. In summer, on the other hand, it becomes a fully tourist town, with restored houses.
Farena is located in the Prades Mountains, at an altitude of about 610 meters on the slope of a sunny estate that drops steeply over the Brugent River. The urban nucleus presents the characteristic unevenness of a small mountain village, with very notable ascents and descents, and it is not accessible by car. The main monument of historical interest is the Romanesque church of San Andrés, from the 12th century . The Brugent, as it passes through Farena, usually carries water and attracts many bathers. On October 10, 1994 the flood of Sant Tomàs de Vilanova occurred, Which completely disfigured the natural landscape of the Brugent.
