The line to the far north leaves the back of the sugar mill, heads north at the first junction past Karang Malang village and then turns east to meet the main Situbondondo - Olean - Tribungan road which it runs alongside for several kilometres before turning west and serving the fields very close to the coast. There is a passing loop at Tribungan which we see in use in the afternoon. Locos in use were No. 4 in the morning with one of the two Kyosan Kogyo diesels and in the afternoon, Nos. 5, 7 & 4. All were out to collect loaded trains from the far north with No. 5 on a train passing 7 & 4 at Tribungan. We followed No. 5 back towards the mill and sunset. (and then home for something large and cold at the Hotel Rosali no doubt!) At this time, Olean was probably the best mill in Java to see daylight loaded cane trains. I understand the line to the Far North has not been used in recent years.
