1:29 The original Lied for 5 voices

------------
This German Lied, based on Giovanni Gastoldi's balletti, bears the subheading "Gagliarda" in Hassler's published collection "Lustgarten." The gagliarda (or galliard) was a brisk dance movement in a 3 rhythm that often followed a more stately and ponderous pavane. Like Arbeau explains in the French dance manual "Orchesographie (1589)," the late 16th century musician had the option to perform pieces like this as a song, a dance or both. The "fa la la" is a typical refrain derived from the Northern Italian composers of the 1590s. According to Arbeau, it was not unusual to dance to a song.
This soundtrack was created using the MAIKA voice bank in Vocaloid 4 for the upper 4 voices (countertenor and tenor) and the CYBER SONGMAN in the bass. The instrumental lines were generated from MIDI files posted on the website CPDL.org by Brian Russell.

Text:
Tanzen und springen,
Singen und klingen,
fa la la...
Lauten und Geigen
Soll’n auch nicht schweigen,
Zu musizieren
Und jubilieren steht mir all mein Sinn.
fa la la...
Schöne Jungfrauen
In grüner Auen,
fa la la...
Mit ihn’n spazieren
Und converzieren,
Freundlich zu scherzen,
Freut mich im Herzen für Silber und Gold.
fa la la la...
Translation:
Dance and jump, ring and ring, fa la la...
Lutes and violins shall not stay silent
To make music and rejoice shall be my desire, fa la la...
Beautiful young women in green meadows, fa la la...
To walk and converse
To joke in a friendly way, make my heart happy
More than silver or gold, fa la la...
