As we continue our look back at the new fall shows for the 1967-68 season, what better way than with The Carol Burnett Show. The show premiered on CBS tonight, fifty years ago, on September 11, 1967.
One of television's all-time talents, and one of television's all-time great shows, perhaps the greatest variety show of all-time. The show would continue on for eleven seasons, ending in spring of 1978, and made up what is arguably the greatest night on Primetime television: Saturday nights on CBS:
All In the Family
MASH (and the Jeffersons)
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
The Bob Newhart Show
The Carol Burnett Show
Talk about appointment television... TGIS.
This video clip is from the 25th anniversary celebration (circa 1992) of The Carol Burnett Show and is one of our favorites. So, we take a moment tonight to pay tribute and salute Carol Burnett, her then-husband Joe Hamilton, who produced the show and kept everything running in the background, Mr. Hamilton's production team, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner, Tim Conway and Dick Van Dyke (who filled in for Harvey in the final season 11 of the show). The best of the best, along with all the great guests who visited along the way... we thank them all for so many great memories and years of entertainment and laughs.
SPECIAL NOTE:
CBS will be airing a special 50th Anniversary celebration of the Carol Burnett Show, with Carol, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Wagner on hand to help out. The special will air on Sunday night, December 3rd, 2017. Don't miss it!
