From the 1970s to the early 2000s, the Toyota Celica was a renowned Japanese sports vehicle. Before becoming a true icon, the Celica was just an inexpensive, entertaining sports coupe with exceptional rallying performance. In 2005, Toyota was forced to abandon the Celica due to shifting market preferences and economic factors.
Long after the Celica's official end, enthusiasts have been yearning for a return, but Toyota hasn't done anything to appease them. However, Japanese sports cars like the Acura NSX, Nissan Z, and Toyota GR Supra have witnessed a comeback in the past ten years. In addition, new models—like the Toyota GR 86—have been unveiled with unusual names. While a Celica return would be great right now, nobody is counting on it to happen. Perhaps our faith has been restored by Toyota's chairman, Akio Toyoda, sometimes known as "Morizo."
